Wisconsin Youth Leadership Academy

5 Practices for Exemplary Leaders

Mt. Morris is very pleased to start out the Summer '12 season by hosting the Wisconsin Youth Leadership Academy (WYLA) sponsored by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.  These students learn the traits of leadership and how to better serve their organizations and communities as leaders.  We welcome WYLA!

Creativity Conference III - Great Success!

This past weekend (Mary 18 - 20) was the third Western District Moravian Church Creativity Conference.  Participants had an opportunity to attend a variety of workshops including Cooking With Joy, Learning to Play the Guitar, Woodworking, Bead Jewelry, Knit for Africa, and several others.  A highlight of the weekend was the painting of a wooden quilt that will be attached to the barn after it's reparations next spring (new roof, siding repair, exterior paint).  It is a beautiful creation (8' X 8') and thanks goes to everyone who helped "lend a hand" to making it happen.  Kris Schefft is especially thanked for her leadership.

Mt. Morris Thanks Al Mothers

Mt. Morris wants to thank all mothers for their love and dedication to family.  Motherhood is often a thankless role and we all too often take for granted mothers' hard work and love of family.  May God Bless all mothers and families this weekend.  Happy Mother's Day!

Many Thanks to Woodcutting Volunteers!

May 4 and 5 have been very successful days of woodcutting with our volunteers - Harry, Bob, Joe, Barb, Al, Doris, Harv, Jason, Glen, and Bruce!  Thanks all for helping us clear in front of the cabins and the campground.  Mt. Morris LOVES volunteers! 

Mt. Morris Goes to Synod!

Every four years the Moravian Church Western District meets for its Synod.  This past weekend Synod was held in Appleton, WI.  Both Joel Jarvis, Director, and Joy Witkowski, Executive Assistant attended the event to participate in this time of fellowship, study, worship, and plenary gatherings.  The picture attached is of Bishop Paul Graf giving a "blessing" to Joy.  Mt. Morris is thankful to be a part of the Moravian Church and thanks everyone for their support of the Mt. Morris ministry.

Attention ALL tent and trailer campers!  Mt. Morris is offering an Early Bird savings promotional between now and May 11th.  Reserve a campsite for this summer before May 11th and camp for 1/2 price!  It sounds too good to be true - but it is the truth!
Campsite With Electricity:  Regular:  $25/site/night - Between now and 5/11:  $13.
Campsite Without Electricity: Regular $20/site/night - Between now and 5/11: $10

Volunteer Spring Clean Up Help Wanted

Mt. Morris Friends!  As spring has come to central Wisconsin (at least we hope it's here to stay) we have a real need for volunteers to help rake - clear downed limbs - and other miscellaneous clean up jobs.  If we have lodging available - we would love to "put you up" - on us!  Give Joel a call if you would like to schedule a day or two - for just yourself or perhaps several folks.  THANK YOU for helping us get ready for summer.

Spring is Arriving - Volunteers Encouraged to Help With Projects

Spring seemed to arrive this past weekend (March 9 - 11)... We'll see!  Mt. Morris sorely needs volunteers to help clear trees from last fall's storm, raking, and other miscellaneous clean up tasks.  If lodging is available - no cost - so please feel free to let us know if you can spend a few days with us at Mt. Plan Now to Attend Raise the Roof Special Event August 25th

Mt. Morris is having a very special event August 25th as a kickoff for our Raise the Roof Campaign to put a new roof on the Barn, new siding, and a new paint job!  We are very excited tothe announce that local Wisconsin author Jerry Apps will be our speaker.  Jerry is a professor at UW - Madison and has authored many books.  Check out his website at: http://www.jerryapps.com/

Mt. Morris "Raise the Roof" Project



"The Barn" is a "welcome home" landmark that is getting a new look!

 Mt. Morris is excited to begin a two year project to install a new roof, repair siding, and exterior paint our 1930 barn!  The Barn has been a significant part of Mt. Morris since the camp was purchased in 1964.  We look forward to your helping us Raise the Roof.  Stay tuned for more information. 

Western District Clergy Are Retreating at Mt. Morris

What a joy to host the annual Western District Moravian clergy at Mt. Morris.  They are in full swing learning and renewing their friendship and fellowship as clergy throughout the Western District.  The Mt. Morris staff appreciate this annual "homecoming event."  Thank you pastors.

A reminder that, as we think spring... then... even summer - yea - it's summer camp time again!  You will receive a blog notice soon when the website is finalized so you can register for camp.  It's time to get excited!

Snow Came Last Week... Finally!

Snow is a really big deal when families and churches come to Mt. Morris for winter fun.  Nature worked for us last week with a very nice snowfall.  We'll sure need more if we hope to get through the winter, but we'll take what we can get.  Guests may choose to go to Nordic Mtn (5 min. from Mt.
